Eric Gordon

There probably isn’t a Division-I starter for whom you couldn’t cut something like this. But this reel illustrates how mechanically sound Eric Gordon’s shot is. Watch the quick release, but pronounced, sweet follow-through. Another nice feature of his game – the hard dribble he uses in traffic en route to the hoop. Again, I haven’t seen him play enough, but among the bevy of accolades you heard about Gordon a year ago was his ability to finish. It’s especially impressive when you draw as much contact as Gordon seems to on his drives. I wish there was tape of what kind of stuff he does off the ball -- it's probably a better predictor of how valuable he'd be in an NBA backcourt.

You've got it right though. He does have a beautiful looking shot. The best thing about it is it doesn't change. Free throw, mid range, three pointer, deep three pointer, it's all the same release, same follow through, same squaring up. He has the potential to be an amazing shooter. The thing a lot of people don't realize about Gordon is he's REALLY athletic. Surprising, because he's a pretty bulky guy and doesn't look like he can get up but he definitely can. He played the 1 and the 2 at Indiana this year, something we as Clipper fans should covet. I'd actually prefer a tweener, believe it or not, considering that we have the opportunity to get a PG through free agency and maybe see Shaun give us same valuable minutes off the bench.
As far as how Gordon played in at Indiana, I was always impressed with him. Even when he wasn't shooting well he stayed aggressive on offense. The abuse from the fans he took at Illinois and his response was impressive. His ability to stay composed during the Sampson firing was impressive as well. One thing that concerns me is Indiana played a 2-3 most of the year, and we never got to see too much of Gordon in man to man defense situations. Drafting players that played a 2-3 in college is always a crap shoot- Carmello Anthony is actually a good example. He seems lost and uninspired on defense a lot of the times, hopefully Gordon is not the same way.
The way Gordon played through his injury is impressive as well. I think with a lot of other 19 year olds a major injury like that could get in your head, but I think Gordon remained mentally tough throughout the year.
I would really like to see the Clips take Gordon if we end up around the #5 pick. Perimeter shooting is something we don't really have, and I think Cat would be a good mentor to Gordon.
Everything is there with Gordon on the offensive end. It would not surprise me to see him average around 15 to 20 ppg a couple seasons down the road.
