Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

Of Clippers and Moral Victories

Posted by Breene Murphy On November - 9 - 2010

Care for a dose of optimism? Charlie Widdoes explains why even after another loss, the future is looking bright in Clipperland.

Some people like to say there is no such thing as a moral victory in professional sports, and while those people are welcome to their opinions, I respectfully disagree with them. There are plenty of positives that can come from losses, even blowout ones like the Clippers’ in New Orleans. In fact, even in losing by 19, along with the news that Chris Kaman will likely miss three weeks, it appears that the Clippers’ development is going almost exactly as planned. You see, at this stage, there is a distinct advantage to seeing certain players play a certain way, regardless of outcome. And that is to say nothing of the actual benefit of losing, but more on that in a bit.

Los Angeles Clippers v. New Orleans Hornets Game Thread

Eric Bledsoe’s point guard opponents just aren’t getting any easier are they? Since picking up the job in the San Antonio game, he’s had to face Tony Parker, Russell Westbrook, Chauncey Billups, Deron Williams and now, la creme de la creme, Chris Paul.

Added Pressure on Baron Davis

Things weren’t bad enough for Baron Davis before he sat down with a swollen knee. Without his doing anything, it all managed to get a lot worse.

But maybe that’s the challenge that he needs.

Clippers 91, Warriors 109

If you thought that Blake Griffin was going to solve all Clippers’ problems, well, that’s obviously not the case. In the second game of the season, the Clippers lost to the Warriors by 18 and the second half of the game didn’t even feel that close.

The game’s first possessions started out ugly, as Clippers went to Chris Kaman to get them started and all he did was continue his cold shooting from Portland and go 0 for his first 4 shots. Most of his shots were ones he would normally make, he even missed a little bunny shot under the basket. Not surprisingly, the Clippers found themselves in an early hole that was compounded by the hot shooting of the Warriors.

Rumination on past trade rumor

Buried in Mark Heisler’s opinion piece on LeBron James is a trade nugget that I can’t help but mull over:

An NBA source says the Cavaliers then offered Mo Williams and Jamario Moon for the Clippers’ Baron Davis, desperate to please James, who likes Baron and was down on Mo … even with newly hired Coach Byron Scott having clashed with Davis in New Orleans.
